<p>I’m not sure about other schools, but the shopping period here can hurt you as well as help you. Yes, you can sample classes and see what you like. But, at the same time, professors do go over actual material during the “shopping period,” so if you decide to join the class later, you will have missed quite a bit of information. Also, some classes that keep track of attendance count the days missed during that period. I’d say we don’t have quite the flexibility you’d expect during this time. I don’t know if this situation is true for other schools as well.</p>
