Does everyone have their popcorn ready for Harry & Meghan?

I would agree that Meghan seems to struggle with getting a loyal following. It could be due to the fact that many didn’t know who she was prior to her engagement to Harry (lots of us had to go off and Google her). Since then, she’s primarily been known as a co-star on “Suits”, Harry’s fiancé, the Dutchess of Sussex, a podcaster and The One Who Convinced Harry to Leave Royal Life and Move to America. Now she’s trying to be a lifestyle brand. It’s kind of all over the place.

We love our Martha’s & Ina’s (and Joanna’s), and it will be interesting to see whether Meghan can find a way to fit into that crowded space. A lot will depend on her celebrity friends and paid influencers hawking her “brand”.

I think she had a fairly successful vlog/blog this while on Suites, including cooking and healthy eating pieces. Not a Martha or Ina, but she had an audience.

She did, it was cute and fresh. Travel and food stuff and it seemed to actually be written by her. At least what I read of it before it was taken down during their engagement.
But it would be unbecoming I suppose for her to publicize Soho House hotels or Alo Yoga workout clothes the way other influencers do. She’s kind of trapped in a super high end market, which isn’t such a bad thing but it’s definitely a harder market to crack.
I will say this about Meghan - and it’s a high compliment: she definitely knows the difference between your and you’re, and there their and they’re.

I feel they are just floundering all over the place. Trying to find their “thing”. It’s a “what are they doing NOW?” Nighjng seems to stick.

On another note, I find it odd that sets constantly groping his arms and hand and legs. He must like it because if he didn’t, I imagine he’d tell her in private to stop.

Catholic school education. My kids also know how to use to, two, and too.

Knowing how to spell is hardly rocket science…and it’s certainly not limited to a ‘Catholic school education’ :woman_shrugging:

Even for someone who’s not a Northwestern grad, that’s a mighty low bar.

Even as a non-native English speaker, I think I learned that by 3rd grade.

In the celebrity social media world, it’s a shockingly high bar :joy:

My point, though, was that her blog was well-written and well-edited. Noticeably more so than many other celebrity blogs at the time.

Wow - interesting perception.

They will have to do something for money. They will never be welcomed back in the royal family or by Britons. I was in Britain this summer. As soon as any Brit heard I live in California the talk turned to Harry and Meghan. Not a single positive view. They felt Harry abandoned his country.

I find it a bit amusing that Harry unexpectedly showed up…surprising the UK tabloids with all their “Royal sources”.

It is a way for Harry and Meghan to stay in the news. Someone once said there is “no bad publicity…”

It’s not spelling, it’s grammar. Certainly not limited to a Catholic school education, but it emphasized. My daughter is not a great writer and keeps everything very simple (she’s an engineer so no need for flowery prose) but the grammar is correct. When I was in 3rd grade, the word ‘been’ was on our spelling list every single week. The teacher said it would be there until we all got it right; 40 kids in the class, and someone always got it wrong. We talked about it every week, how to use it, what it meant, and yes, how to spell it.

Meghan is certainly well educated and communicates well.

I think it says a lot that both went to the funeral, it sounds like neither announced it, and honored their uncle.

Good for them for doing the right thing, even when the right thing is difficult. And shows that they’ve kept in touch with their mother’s family although we don’t hear much about it.

I needed that positivity during my time covering the Sussexes, since any sort of association with the couple—even just being a pool reporter sharing basic details and facts about their day-to-day events—means opening yourself up to unwarranted critique from, well, the world. Within hours of the announcement I would be accompanying them on tour, I was called a grifter, a mouthpiece, and a calculated piece of their PR puzzle, among other things—and that was before I even sent out a single pool report. U.K. reporters specifically were baffled about my being there

Snarky but interesting article in the U.K. press (gift link):

(In case it’s not clear, “the royals will be thrilled” is sarcasm…)

Interesting bits:

Well knock me down with a very small feather, Prince Harry’s apparently bored and wants to come home. Eight years since he met Meghan, six years since he married her, four since they flounced off to America, he’s back in touch with old friends and advisers and seeking to “rehabilitate” his image. That’s quite some brass neck. He’s spent the intervening time saying he was hounded out of the land of his birth and had to take a “freedom flight” to Canada.

He’s complained to whoever points a camera at him about vile courtiers, a wicked stepmother, violent brother and emotionally stunted father. But now it turns out that watching Meghan make jam isn’t enough. According to the Mail on Sunday, he’s been WhatsApping old friends and advisers in the UK and wants to mend relations with his father. Having recently parted company with yet another head of communications, he is “seeking counsel from old friends and associates … rethinking the way he operates.”

For a proud man obsessed with his dignity and public image, it must hurt that one of the last times he appeared at an official engagement here — the 2022 service at St Paul’s for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum jubilee — he was booed. Once the most popular member of the royal family, his ratings in the US are on the slide. In a recent YouGov UK poll, only 7 per cent of respondents had a positive view of him. In comparison, the Princess of Wales scored a 74 per cent approval rating and Prince William 75 per cent.

I’m no expert but the “vibes” from the RF toward Meghan & Harry since their exit don’t project feelings of welcome back to the fold anytime, we’ll grab a pint and laugh about old times. Certainly not from the British public.

They wanted out and they got it. I’d be surprised if KC willingly reverses everything and takes them back as working royals. If Meghan wasn’t comfortable with that life before, I can’t imagine she’d be tolerant of the scrutiny as they come crawling back. She’d have even less allies there now.

“Crawling back”? After the way she was treated, this isn’t going to happen.

“Crawling back” probably refers to Harry. I can’t see them returning to live in the U.K. I can believe that Harry has regrets and wishes for ties with family, friends, country.

From the little bit I’ve read, William seems adamant about keeping Harry out of the fold believing Harry can not be trusted.
