Very interesting and insightful article. Shows both sides - the good and bad. Seems to confirm that they are difficult to work with too:
"The person who worked in media projects read stories in the tabloids about Meghan “bullying” palace aides and couldn’t imagine such behavior actually happened. After working with her, though, this person realized, “Oh, any given Tuesday this happened.”
"Two sources say a colleague with ties to Archetypes took a leave of absence after working on three episodes, then left Gimlet altogether. Several others described taking extended breaks from work to escape scrutiny, exiting their job, or undergoing long-term therapy after working with Meghan. The person who interacted professionally with her says, “I think if Meghan acknowledged her own shortcomings or personal contributions to situations rather than staying trapped in a victim narrative, her perception might be better.”
After reading the article, it is clear that Meghan is hard working and wants to be successful. Harry comes across as lost. A charming guy that just doesn’t have what it takes, and so is willing to let Meghan do all the hard work (IMO).
I am respectfully skeptical of this and most articles right now. I don’t put much faith in fair and balanced coverage of Harry and Meghan for multiple reasons. Just because a writer includes positive and negative observations doesn’t necessarily mean it’s fact-based.
Some may find celebrity speculation entertaining. Everyone can weigh in with an opinion. I think it’s fine…and it’s not like anyone needs my permission. But somehow the extreme, incessant vitriol directed at this couple just doesn’t sit right with me.
So now when I read a particularly unflattering/unkind article I find myself pausing to consider if there’s a hidden motive. Nowadays it feels like a journalist doesn’t necessarily just report on opinions but unfortunately many times seems to be trying to form/drive opinions in a certain direction.
There are also instances where there’s a possibility that people are rewarded/paid for lying. I find it discouraging. I imagine if I were the subject of lies I’d be very distressed.
Here’s an example:
When you throw Harry’s court case in the mix, I wonder how people don’t see the attacks directed at Meghan as a way to go after Harry. The court case begins tomorrow.
The hate campaign conducted in the British press has had consequences beyond the harm to the couples’ popularity. Considering King Charles’ refusal to provide any security to Harry’s family if they visit the UK, I wonder how anyone still has any admiration for the BRF. I particularly wonder why any Americans are starry eyed about any member of that monarchy.
This is a November 2022 article. Why bring it up now - to deflect from the VF article? Also, as I understand it, - they get security when given advance notice and in line with non working members of the BRF and VIP’s.
I feel for Harry. He has a very difficult decision to make.
“If Harry accepts a settlement, it would spare him heavy financial risk, regardless of how he fares in court. Under English law, he would be required to pay the legal costs of both sides — which could run into the tens of millions of dollars — if the court does not award him an amount commensurate with what News Group Newspapers offered him in a settlement.”
“ Lawyers for Harry planned to lay out not only a pattern of unlawful behavior, but also what they describe as a systematic scheme to delete emails to cover up the hacking. They questioned why News Group had no plans to call those they claim were most responsible for the coverup: Mr. Murdoch’s younger son, James; Rebekah Brooks, the chief executive of News U.K.; and Will Lewis, a former senior executive at the company who is now the publisher of The Washington Post.”
He faces probable high financial cost (tens of millions) regardless if the court rules in his favor…the reason why hundreds of others have settled similar claims.
How much is accountability worth? He has a family to consider. The defendants are VERY powerful people…a Murdoch, a CEO of News UK (formerly New International) and the CEO of the Washington Post.
Has he accomplished enough just by taking the suit this far? Imo it’s a tough call…and it’s his to make. I personally will understand if he settles, knowing the settlement $$s will afford him the opportunity to do a lot of good for his philanthropic interests. To not settle would be a HUGE undertaking, where the opposing side has extremely deep pockets and a megaphone of media outlets to do their bidding.
Observing recent events I would be very concerned with relationships/possible alliances between the ultra affluent…for instance, look who employs Will Lewis of the WP.
Thank you for clarifying how the settlement process in England works. Yes, that’s quite a weighty decision indeed. Particularly because a lot of the public only consumes sound bites and without that background information, a US audience could easily think a settlement means he had a weak case.
I don’t know how to post a link, but The Guardian has an article that Prince Harry settled and it printed the apology The Sun published as part of the settlement. The apology really shows just how despicable The Sun was. I hope everyone prints this apology when reporting the settlement.
NGN offers a full and unequivocal apology to the Duke of Sussex for the serious intrusion by the Sun between 1996 and 2011 into his private life, including incidents of unlawful activities carried out by private investigators working for the Sun.
NGN also offers a full and unequivocal apology to the Duke of Sussex for the phone hacking, surveillance and misuse of private information by journalists and private investigators instructed by them at the News of the World.
NGN further apologises to the Duke for the impact on him of the extensive coverage and serious intrusion into his private life as well as the private life of Diana, Princess of Wales, his late mother, in particular during his younger years. We acknowledge and apologise for the distress caused to the Duke, and the damage inflicted on relationships, friendships and family, and have agreed to pay him substantial damages.t is also acknowledged, without any admission of illegality, that NGN’s response to the 2006 arrests and subsequent actions were regrettable.
NGN also offers a full and unequivocal apology to Lord Watson for the unwarranted intrusion carried out into his private life during his time in government by the News of the World during the period 2009- 2011.
This includes him being placed under surveillance in 2009 by journalists at the News of the World and those instructed by them. NGN also acknowledges and apologises for the adverse impact this had on Lord Watson’s family and has agreed to pay him substantial damages.
In addition, in 2011 News International received information that information was being passed covertly to Lord Watson from within News International. We now understand that this information was false, and Lord Watson was not in receipt of any such confidential information.
I hope the “substantial damages” awarded are significant enough to deter them from ever again engaging in such illegal and immoral intrusions into anyone else’s life. I also hope the amount is sufficient to allow Harry to live his life in Montecito free from financial concerns. The true cost of their actions—the “damage inflicted on relationships, friendships, and family”—is immeasurable and beyond any monetary value.
Speculation. “Sources” say it’s an 8-figure amount, which is minimum £10 million (or $12.3 million). Although I doubt it’s much more - though it should be more.
“He revealed in court papers that his father opposed his lawsuit. He also said his older brother William, Prince of Wales and heir to the throne, had settled a private complaint against News Group that his lawyer has said was worth over 1 million pounds ($1.23 million).”
