“The legal teams for Sussex and Watson had wanted an admission of destruction of evidence in the settlement, which they did not get. They do believe, however, that in NGN’s apology and the admission of criminality at the Sun, there is a confession that the company lied, worthy of further police investigation.
“There were basically two things we were trying to prove,” a source said. “One or the other would be enough to show that they lied. It was either evidence destruction or unlawful behaviour, and as soon as the unlawful behaviour went in the statement, we could settle.””
I am not a lawyer but it seems to be difficult to prove someone has lied…especially if people either destroy evidence or are willing to lie/perjure themselves in court. When the person has both the monetary resources to drag out the process and utilize the media to their advantage to sway public opinion the task of accountability is daunting.
It only makes what Harry accomplished that much more impressive.
Then there’s this:
“Watson used his moment on the steps of the court to disclose that he would be sending a dossier of evidence disclosed to the claimants to the Met to act upon. It is understood that the peer’s lawyers are working on the file and it will be submitted within weeks.”
Will the Met investigate the matter further? A civil case was problematic. A criminal case would be interesting.
The Invictus Games are coming up so I expect a lot of negative U.K. media/tabloid stories. I’m choosing to focus on the positive. Hoping Harry and Meghan persevere and keep “showing up and doing good”.
I read this article and thought that it did a great job of explaining the differences between Americans and British.
The hugging. That made me laugh. I was not brought up hugging everyone I meet but I had a sister in law who hugs everyone, all the time. Regardless if she knows you are not. It was uncomfortable for me at first until I got to know that it’s who she is. I’m different than that.
I didn’t see that the article was biased or slanted one way or another. And I’m going to chalk up a lot of the misunderstanding to cultural differences even though we speak the same language, our culture is very different.
Also class differences are a gulf, a huge gulf. Harry didn’t explain some things because that’s how it was always done. Meghan had a completely different upbringing.
Harry would be the best person to judge whether Meghan is “a good wife”…especially if you consider who is calling her “terrible”. Harry looks really happy to me.
And since I like Meghan’s fashion sense, I’ve linked the following article. It includes some nice photos and videos from Invictus. If you have time I recommend watching some of the videos from the opening ceremony.
Thanks! In general I like her color palette and age appropriate style. I agree her American style is better…perhaps because she is choosing what she is wearing and therefore feels more comfortable.
I agree, I really like her style. She has great arms and shoulder. My favorite look on her are halter dresses and tops. My favorite outfit of hers is that a Kelly Green cape dress right before they left the UK.
A quick google search, shows the existence of a clothing brand based in NYC called As Ever. I assume she must have known this and that they can co-exist without confusion…
A complete rebrand two weeks before launch is rough. No matter how she tries to spin it, it’s going to come across like there was chaos or dysfunction behind the scenes.
Not sure that MM would appreciate the comparison, but Kim Kardashian had to totally rebrand her shapewear line after its soft launch because the original name - Kimono - was not properly tested and landed with a predictable thud when it hit the market. She quickly pivoted, and was transparent about the reasons. Based on the success of that brand, now known as Skims, I would say that MM might want to take a look at Kim’s PR strategy.
Who knows, and it’s not up to Meghan if she thinks there would be confusion or not. Maybe Meghan didn’t ask for clothing to be covered by the trademark?
Regardless, the NY company could definitely try to block this name since the customer base likely overlaps…might not work of course, and would cost $ (but maybe they could get an attorney to do it pro bono.) Note that As Ever NYC also sells their items on Madewell’s site.
Social media is already rallying in support of the NYC As Ever - promoting their brand and products.
Meghan seems to have a history of these soft launches of lifestyle brands, promises of products, podcasts, etc., that never fully get off the ground. Maybe NYC As Ever will get lucky, and this will be another one of those times where the grand plans just kinda fizzle.
Why doesn’t she just use the “Tig” name again? Those who were familiar with Meghan pre-Harry seemed responsive to that website and everything she was doing on there.
