Does everyone have their popcorn ready for Harry & Meghan?

Harry doesn’t sound well (gift link):

Prince Harry: I’m exhausted by court fight over security

That article is not very becoming to Harry. Makes him sound like a brat.

They left royal life on their own volition, threw mud on their way out, and now they expect KC to roll over and give them what they want.

They want their cake, and to be able to eat it too. They want their “privacy” in America (well, not really since they always seem to be in the news) and they, or at least Harry, wants to be able to sashay back into the UK whenever the mood suits him, and be greeted with the royal family-level of security.

I don’t think they really have any intention of bringing their children to the UK but are using them as leverage to bolster their case for security. Does anyone in the UK even still like Harry & Meghan? Would they be excited to see them come for a visit? Would the British press be talking about it with unbridled excitement? Would there be a parade? I can’t see Meghan ever going back and she’s not going to let her children go without her.

Sorry, I’m on the side of the RF in this one - and I don’t think it’s going to get any easier for Harry once William takes the throne. He seems to be hip to Harry’s grift and much less tolerant.

Harry & Meghan think people care way more about them then we actually do. It’s sad for Harry, to be estranged from the majority of his family - for Meghan.

What I do not understand is “why” Harry is so desperate for the security considerations in the UK. Many famous people have private security and do not have access to “Royal” security when traveling in the UK. He stepped away from royal life and duties and left the country. Why fight so hard to have this extra protection? Do other royals who are not working royals get that type of protection? Just curious because it seems he does not even travel to the UK that often.

Any security for non-working royals, and working royals* when not working, is at their expense.

No, non-working royals do not get protection. Even working royals do not get protection unless they are working. Only the King and Queen and the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children get full time security.

It seems unlikely that the King is going to travel to CA to see them, and I don’t think anyone expects him to live many more years. So it’s sad if he’s never going to see his grandchildren again.

As such, I don’t understand what his argument in court could be. There’s no debate that H&M are no longer working royals (at their request). Giving them security opens up the door for all non-working royals (and working royals when not working) to receive the same courtesy.

I guess I am confused as to why Harry would expect that protection now that he has stepped back from royal life and moved to another country? Is it a prestige thing? I understand needing safety for your family but private security works for lots of important people.

I think the primary reason is that in the U.K. any private security guards can’t carry firearms, whereas specialist police protection officers can (if necessary, the average police officer on the street doesn’t).

Meghan saw a show in NY this week. Had police escorts for the mile trek from her hotel. Multiple black SUV’s

This is why she gets so much criticism imo. Stars of much bigger magnitude seemingly walk to their shows unbothered. She makes a huge production of it. Opens up herself to criticism.

With rare exceptions, and they’re not granting Harry an exception, private security in the UK can’t be armed.

He has to make a decision whether he needs to go to the event, if he needs security if he goes, and if he needs to pay for it himself.

Many stars travel to the UK from around the would and their security can’t carry guns. Sometimes (I assume) they don’t go. Some people only want to travel with their dogs and if they can’t bring them they just don’t go.

Harry has chosen a career where showing up in person is important, but he needs to accept the risk or change his events. Make them inside, make them private/no press. Oh, that doesn’t serve the purpose of having a big public event? Then accept the risk

Charles made this decision and Harry has to live with it. Or invite people to visit him in California.

This assumes the level of threat for them in the same as any other celebrity. I wonder if there are things we simply don’t know about.
It is possible that threats faced by Harry/Meagan are not the same as threats faced by Oprah. We don’t know.

What is clear to me is making Harry/Meagan into some sort if untouchables, makes William/Kate “Angel” narrative easier. God forbid the younger brother or his wife were popular.
Sick family.

No one would have even noticed her if she didn’t have an entourage. She does it so the press will take pictures and her name trends.

I don’t think anyone would bother Harry either, honestly. They aren’t Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, but they wish they were. Americans have MOVED ON (actually many of us were never “ON” in the first place).

I’ve been sympathetic to them in the past, but I’m growing tired of “The Harrry and Meagan Show.”

I work right by the Ziegfeld in Midtown. Always makes me chuckle when I pass by the Hertz counter on 55th Street that was the backdrop for their “escape” photo.

This is sad, especially the comment about King Charles’ illness (and I worry that Harry isn’t in a good place). I also wonder why he thinks he gets to “forgive” his family, rather than apologizing to them, given that he’s been the cause of most of the problems:

The Duke of Sussex has told the BBC he “would love a reconciliation” with the Royal Family, in an emotional interview in which he said he was “devastated” at losing a legal challenge over his security in the UK.

Prince Harry said the King “won’t speak to me because of this security stuff”, but that he did not want to fight anymore and did “not know how much longer my father has”.

After Friday’s court ruling, the prince said: “I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point.”

“There have been so many disagreements between myself and some of my family,” he added, but had now “forgiven” them.

“I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious,” said Prince Harry, who said the dispute over his security had “always been the sticking point”.

I wonder if Charles knows he doesn’t have that much longer left?

It seems like Harry is still not taking the responsibility for his choices in fracturing the relationship. The royal family has moved on… and they probably do not want to waste more time trying to appease H and M.
