Does everyone have their popcorn ready for Harry & Meghan?

My thoughts are along the same lines as @sbinaz:

Truthfully, I knew when I posted that I’d get some pushback, and I hope Archie has a fun-filled birthday. He won’t care in the least if pictures of it are shared with other than family and friends and I guess I don’t see the need. It would be for publicity only, right?

Archie’s birthday is the excuse they both needed. That’s all. Everyone can see right through it, but at least it’s something they can cling too. I highly doubt Meghan manipulated it so Harry has to hurry back. They both are using it, and in Harry’s case, so he likely can escape before he has to nod his head to Camilla. I’m sure it’s very stressful for him not having his wife beside him during all the family angst.

I wonder if they talk to Charles over the phone.

A small child’s birthday party need not be on the exact date of birth—if it’s a few days earlier or later, as if the kid is going to care? No, I agree, the birthday is a convenient excuse.

Worldwide Privacy Tour describes H/M perfectly: leave us alone, let us live our lives, but PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE US!!!

I guess I don’t look in the right places, but the news was released that Harry would attend the coronation and Meghan would not. All the rest of it is just other people making up what they think must be going on, right? I’m just not seeing Harry and Meghan making a big deal out of this. Did they release some big statement about Archie’s birthday somewhere? Did they release anything about the coronation? Or is that more tabloid fodder? The coronation is one thing where I have not seen them do anything that says “Please do not ignore us”.

It just amazes me how intense the emotional reactions to anything they do or say or don’t do or say is.

They did delay responding well beyond the deadline given in the invitation, which inevitably led to more tabloid stories about “will they or won’t they come” and reporting on the back and forth between the two sides:

Again, allegedly. "Neither Buckingham Palace nor a legal representative for the Duke of Sussex responded to a request for comment today. "

From the same article: “At his grandmother’s funeral last September, Harry and Meghan were squeezed into a corner at the end of the second row with a candle even obscuring a clear view of the Duchess.”

He was behind the Queen’s children, the heir, and their spouses. AKA where he belonged in the pecking order, if indeed he had an issue.

I guess I just don’t think anyone really knows when they responded. We only know when the palace released the statement. The whole British Tabloid scene is really something.

I don’t get all the speculations on this thread. We don’t know anything except what the press tells us. I wouldn’t judge a family on tabloid rumors.

When people publish their stories for public consumption, readers often speculate about characters and sequels.

This family’s ancestors changed lives of billions of people in dozens of countries by colonizing their ancestral homelands. Idk why anyone would be surprised by human interest in their stories.

Oh, I’m as interested as anyone in this family and how a monarchy operates in 2023. I follow this thread, right? It’s just that I try to get information from reputable sources, or from things they have written themselves. And I know that like every family, there are many sides to the stories. I’m not surprised by the interest, I’m just surprised by the emotional intensity. I’m also surprised by the willingness to accept that what the tabloid press publishes is true.

As far as I’m able to ascertain, Harry and Meghan have not done one thing to try to draw attention to themselves with regard to the coronation. And yet, there is so much vitriol directed at them over what other people seem to think they are thinking.

I’m not sure what vitriol you are referring to. We’re all just making observations and giving our opinions.

If I were H, I’d be pissed if I went thru all that to end up divorced!

Divorce makes zero sense for them. Both are estranged from their families and share kids, properties, advisors, businesses, security and lawsuits. They won’t have as much value as singles as they enjoy cumulatively as a brand.

What I have struggled with is why would KC choose that particular day for his coronation? Is there some significance to the date? Did he even realize it is Archie’s birthday when he chose the date?

I doubt that KC chose the date himself.

There were far more important things in the UK calendar that the Coronation had to be fitted around. It wasn’t ever going to be decided on the basis of a 4 year old’s birthday.

Coronations are always in May or June since that has slightly more reliable weather for the processions (at least by British standards). And the government likely wanted a Saturday in order to minimize disruption to work. Then you have to avoid bank holiday weekends (since the Coronation gives Brits an extra one on May 8), the FA cup final, the Royal Windsor Horse show (yes really), etc. I’m sure that the selected date also coincides with numerous other birthdays, anniversaries, etc amongst the 2000 invited guests, but they will suck it up and not complain.

Being true for the last 2 doesn’t constitute "always." But in this day and age with media, weather likely played a part.

And yes, not conflicting with a 4 year old’s birthday party was not high on the list of criteria.
