British Royal Family.
I don’t think Kate or her set view Markle’s past as anything to emulate or envy. I think she would be quite disappointed if her sister or child followed that path.
Just wanted to say that I have never achieved anything notable in my life other than a good marriage, and being a good mom. I would not have been able to do those things, (plus be a good daughter and sister), while being a working Royal.
My hat is off to Kate and I wish their family well.
Shrug. I don’t wish Kate any ill. I just don’t share the high opinion of her that many of the posters on this thread have. That was my point—that different people form different impressions of the members of the BRF.
And I don’t think a second class degree makes Kate an idiot. It doesn’t. A second class degree is perfectly respectable–even now. I was just disagreeing with the idea that a first was “very uncommon.” When more than one of ten people do something, I don’t deem it “very uncommon” or a “remarkable achievement.”
I do hold it against her that she didn’t work, except for one part-time position for 6 months. So did the Queen allegedly, so I’m in good company.
If Markle had sufficient funds, she may not have worked, either. She doesn’t really do so now.
I’m talking about before she married. Sounds like she didn’t do much for 10 years except wait around for a proposal. I’m not a great Meghan lover, but she worked hard and achieved a goal of hers. She was known on her own (yes, I’m aware she was a B list actress), but being on a known show isn’t anything to sneeze at in that highly competitive world). According to Spare, Catherine and Will were big Suits watchers. Just sayin’ there may have been a bit of envy.
I find it hard to believe that a mature person like Kate would be the least bit jealous or envious of someone just because their “accomplishments” were in the entertainment sphere.
I think even the stodgy BRF thinks that the idea that a job in the entertainment industry isn’t a respectable job is an antiquated PoV, particularly given precedent; Princess Margaret’s daughter married an actor.
Her chosen profession is not the point. My point is she excelled at something, in addition to philanthropy. Kate just hung around waiting to be proposed to. I have no idea what her tendency towards being envious or jealous is, but she’s not above it. She may or may not have been. Just a thought I had.
Well to be honest we really do not know what Kate was doing prior to getting married… except a few tabloids articles. For all we know she could have spent time volunteering or perhaps being groomed for her future role.
I’m sad to hear the woman bashing/judging on this thread for career or non-career choices, prestigious degrees or “plain” ones, and other personal choices people make for themselves or family. If the intend of their lives is to do good for others in some way - through their own family, friends, country or whatever - that to me is the making of a good human being.
She graduated from college in 2005 and became engaged in 2010, so not 10 years. They broke up in 2007 for a while and then reconciled. She attended some events for William while he was in the military, like weddings and ceremonies. She even met the Queen for the first time without William.
She did some charity work like set up exhibitions, so used her art history degree. My daughter, an art history major who is going to marry someone in the military, would LOVE to be able to ‘work’ this way when she graduates next December but sadly for her I don’t own a $1M apartment in London for her to live in with her sister and other money to support her during her post college time.
I don’t think it is that unusual for a person in Kate Middleton’s (or Pippa’s) situation to only work part time post college because they can. Some may do charity work, travel the world, study something else like music or art. She may have been deciding if she wanted to go back to college for an advanced degree but then started dating William again and really, we all know that was a full time job.
She also became an accomplished pianist.
As we all saw in the opening sequence of last night’s Eurovision finale. Everyone was watching, right? ![]()
I watched it!! It was a nice opening, but more importantly my favourite act won!! Sweden - Tattoo - awesome Eurovision song !!!
Sorry, I digress!
I have little to no respect for any opinion that claims internet fodder as fact but particularly so with this red herring rumor. If Catherine had any fear that William and Rose had an affair, Pippa would never have named her third child Rose knowing how it would impact her sister emotionally and likewise King Charles would have chosen another page for his coronation rather than Lord Oliver. I don’t assume William and Catherine’s marriage is wedded bliss every moment of every day but William has experienced the very public and toxic outcome of infidelity in his parents’ marriage, the effect of which would certainly impact his own decisions in that regard (not to mention knowing full well how much better his mother fared after with the public than his father). There is just no logical merit at all to this rumor.
There are many ways to get into a college.
I thought she worked for her mom’s company. There was something like that in news somewhere.
Why would you make that assumption?
Is this serious? Well, she definitely wasn’t first gen…
