Does failing an elective ruin your chances of getting accepted??

I just remember I failed my computer science elective with a 57… Only class I failed… Would it lower my chances of getting into a college?

Oops I mean duhhh it would lower the chances I mean will it like be an automatic rejection ? Njit is the school I’m applying to.

Sorry for this answer: depends. How are you on extracurriculars/ other classes/ standardized test scores compared to other applicants? If you’re above average, it cancels out. Worry if you’re below average. Or try to take it over the summer if you have time. Good luck! Hope you get in

Well I put my stats in this, can u chance me including the info I stated in this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1463091-chances-getting-njit.html</a> thank you.

Ouch - I’m sure if you explained the reason why you failed it wouldn’t be an immediate rejection. Most likely, if you have the high grades to compensate, they’ll ignore this anomaly for the most part.

If the rest of your application is great not at all…A friend of a friend failed gym every year and now goes to a top 10 LAC.

But I thought you should never give explanations as to why you did bad on a coarse in the essay, because it makes it excusy…

But this class was hard, i heard if i were to take this class at njit a 40 out of 100 were to be passing because of how hard some of the classes there are , not even lying.

Excuses are generally bad. But if the class is as hard as you said it was ask that counselor mention it in their recommendation.

I don’t have any recommendations -.- is that bad ?

Most colleges require a counselor recommendation. What grade are you in?

12th, well, the school I applied to didn’t require 1.

You are fine then. You may want to contact the college and see if you can now submit a counselor one though (if your counselor will speak to the difficulty of the class).

Lol im pretty sure its too late for that, i’ve submitted my stuff for njit on Feburary 4th and they recieved it on feb. 11th, now awaiting for the answer, I was just soooo worried because i just remembered this class i failed in sophmore year which was soo difficult its called visual basics, and im soo bad with computer programming and i had a lame teacher who doesn’t really help much but just make us do assignments from the book and when i tried to change that class my guidance said it was too late -_-so it was such a bad experience for me, its just my fear of being rejected because of that, that’s all. I should have done what you said but I JUST remembered about that class -.-

And plus I was warned about that class but im a tryer so i took the risk, I just didn’t know i would have a useless teacher -___-
