Does financial aid ever get taken away?

Hi,

my situation is that I have already submitted CSS profile and sent in corrections via mail two more times because of the careless stupid mistakes I had made.

Now, I have realized that the estimated income that I provided based on the last year’s tax return will be off by a thousand to three thousand dollars. (ANOTHER THING TO FIX!!!)

I plan to submit the correction once again via mail after the taxes are done.

I know that the college will ask for verifying documents like W2 and 1040 Tax Return,
to make the final financial package, but I cannot help but worry that I will be portrayed as an unreliable applicant and that they will take extreme steps such as to take the aid away.

Does this ever happen? Not giving aid because of inconsistencies they find?
Or does the financial aid office kindly fix the inconsistencies they find by looking at the verifying documents?

A lot of people estimate on the CSS profile,-- schools even tell you to do so. It’s okay, and you don’t need to continuously fix it, especially if it is info they will receive via tax forms or FAFSA. Your aid numbers will also be finalized with the FAFSA-- once the IRS has processed your forms, you will have the option of linking your taxes to the FAFSA, and then you can electronically send the FAFSA to your schools again, along with your tax forms. Schools understand that a lot of the filing this earlier is just estimation, and don’t won’t penalize you in any way. Your final aid package, at whatever college you end up, will also be given based on verification of all of your information.
