I’m not aware of Harvard having anything similar to Princeton’s Scholars Institute.

AZOG11, if you want to pursue a career in academia, the Scholars Institute may give you a good start in terms of research and making connections with professors. I think if you could ask yourself why you want to participate in it, that would help you make your decision.

I bet that somewhere Harvard DOES have some sort of program for orienting and preparing at-risk students the summer before they start as freshmen. It may not be as long (7 weeks!) as Princeton’s, or as powerful (two course credits!), or as big (because offered to lots of people, rather than required of just a few). But it would be shocking of there weren’t something there. If Harvard hasn’t told you about it, that means that as far as they are concerned you don’t need it.

That said, Harvard is more a sink-or-swim kind of place than Princeton. No surprise there. So no surprise that Princeton has a warm and fuzzy program for at-risk admits that wraps puppies and rainbows around remedial courses, and Harvard has something secret, or nothing at all.

The Harvard Bureau of Study Council makes a lot of resources available, including a summer reading strategy course:
