Does Independent Study look bad?

So basically, our biology classes at school stop at the AP Biology level, and I’m interested in pursuing it more in depth. My biology teacher ove me a lot and she’s agreed to mentor my independent study sessions. However, I was wondering whether the lack of a concrete class on my schedule will be frowned upon by colleges? It’s not a technical class, and I have no peers, etc…

Thank you!

@foreverprongs try looking at your local CC to see if they have any college bio offerings. Better than self studying imo.

It can be bad… If the teacher doesn’t structure it. If it’s structured like a normal class, you’ll be fine.

I think colleges are ok with independent studies that have teachers as a mentor and are on your course schedule.

I read an article at some point in time,(not sure what it was titled) but it was a panel of Yale admission officers and basically what they said was that independent studying a subject doesn’t really impress them. So, if you want to independent study a topic make sure you do it because you want to, not just for colleges.
