Don’t ask me how but i got a 200$ ticket to canada so i am thinking of checking out my schools in may.But does it do any good to check the schools out in may?

We’ve done several tours in the summer. I haven’t really found having students on campus to be any more or less valuable for tours personally. They do add another facet to the visit but for initial fact finding visits, I don’t think they are necessary. When the kids get down to their final choices, we will visit again during the school year if possible.

Some colleges are still in session in May. Others will be in the middle of exams, or pre-commencement. There, you won’t get to sit in on many classes or lectures, but you will see lots of students at the time of year when many campuses look the prettiest.

When do you normally have to commit to schools as a transfer? would i have time to decide. Also would it be a really bad mistake not to visit the schools?

I think preliminary tours make sense, but there should be a school-year followup before committing. Just be clear in your mind that you’re not ruling a good school out on the basis of things that would be different during the school year. I made that mistake when I was in HS. We went touring in the summer, and I was turned off to a school because they (very kindly, at my request) unlocked a closed freshman dorm so that I could walk through. The dorm smelled musty. In my 16 year old brilliance, I took one sniff and thought “yuck, I’m not coming here”. And I’m sure the place would have seemed very different during the academic year, and the school probably would have done me more good than where I ended up.
