Sorry, meant to say “… during periods they cannot CALL you?”

I know that recruits can call coaches during periods that coaches are prohibited from calling recruits, but I always thought that unless the kid is a superstar the coaches would be more bothered than intrigued by a recruit calling them unsolicited during a quiet period. So should a recruit call or is email less of a nuisance?

If you are a “superstar” the coach has already contacted you - albeit indirectly - they’ve contacted your HS or club coach and specifically asked you to call them at a certain number and a certain time.

Coaches are not bothered and are expecting to be called. They will be very honest with you and it will save everyone alot of time and effort in the process. Making that first call always seems hard, but you will find the coaches are used to taking these types of calls and will lead the conversation, making it very easy on the recruit.

You certainly want to make sure you are calling schools that are a good fit for you, both athletically and academically; but if you are not making the call, you are going to be at a disadvantage to those who are.
