Does it help to have a rec. from a Stanford professor?

My friend and I are both applying for Stanford this year, and all our stuff are similar (activities, scores etc.)

But, he went to the Stanford Summer Camp this summer and managed to get a rec. from one of the professors there.

Does that have a BIG impact on one’s chances? I thought external rec.s were hardly considered.

My essay would have to be good enough to top his essay AND that recommendation, but i think our essays are gonna be at a similar level…

What do u guys think? HELP!!

what kind of help do you expect??

A rec from a Stanford prof can be a great boost, or can be nothing at all - it all depends what is in that rec. More importantly, there is nothing you can do about it. Just work on your own application, and make it the best you can - don’t try to outdo you friend.

“Please remember that a letter from a famous person or Stanford alumnus is not going to help us reach a decision if that person is unable to add new insights to your application.”
