Does it hurt to wait?

Hey guys,

I’m a senior this year and will be graduating in May 2010. My major is in IR and am trying to pursue a Masters degree in a Security Studies program at Georgetown, GW, Syracuse, Denver, etc.

My question is, does it look bad/hurt my chances if I wait a year to apply? For example, I will applying in August-December 2010 for admissions in Fall 2011. I am going to use the summer to study for the GRE and beef up my appliaction and hopefully take a few additional econ classes after I apply so its not like I’m sitting around doing nothing. But will it hurt?

Nope. (ten characters…)

No. In fact, it will likely help you a great deal. Not only will you be more competitive due to your greater experience, you will possibly be more mature and aware of WHY you want to attend grad school.

I agree with the previous responses. I waited two years before I decided to enter graduate school. I finally knew what I really wanted to study. I feel much more mature and focused.

Thanks a bunch for the replies I feel a lot better now.
