Does it matter where you go to college?

As a business major, does it really matter where you go to college? If so, why? Do you have to go to an elite university?

Not necessarily an “elite” university but a student should go to a college where he will be academically challenged. If he has the stats for Wharton but chooses to go to East Podunk State College he would be able to breeze through the program.

From another post:

I don’t know why you’re asking whether going to a higher tier school makes a difference. You need to get your study habits corrected to you can do well where you are now.

Read this, it answers your question very well,

I think it may matter depending on what you want to do after college and where you want to land. A Harvard business degree isn’t going to matter as much on Main Street USA, but it will carry a great deal of weight on Wall Street. If you want to live and work in Texas, whether you are an Aggie or a Longhorn matters.

Many elite colleges and universities do not have an undergrad business major.

Well, I’m really confused, because as I was surfing on the internet I kept seeing that the school you go to, maters if you’re a business major. Same for the school reputation…etc.

It’s more important to do well where you’re planted, and that’s obviously what you need to concentrate on now.

If you’re getting D’s in your business classes, you are asking the wrong questions here.

What I’m concerned about is the job prospects after graduating. All these ranking and stuff, confuse me.

^ Ignore rankings. Ask your school where graduates with your degree have gotten jobs. That is what’s important for you.

See answers under same question you posted elsewhere.

WHere you go is certainly important. Otherwise, you might as well choose a school randomly.

School Name only will not make you successful. As stated above in post #7, “bloom where planted”, meaning do well at the school you currently attend and you will be successful.

Is there any truth to your username? Maybe you should try to change it to PartySomeDays?

Is it possible that if you partied less, and worked harder, you could be successful at the school you’re at? That seems to be the best solution.

If you think you can’t succeed at your current school, you should absolutely transfer to somewhere that you can be successful. Ideally you would want to be in the “best” school where you can be successful.

To answer your original question - yes, it absolutely matters where you go to school. For example, if you go to a school that you fail out of, it’s very bad news for your career.

If you’re getting D’s in basic classes, your problem is that you may not even be eligible for internships. Focus on your grades now before thinking of what will happen after you graduate.

“What I’m concerned about is the job prospects after graduating”

It’s very bad regardless of which school you go, unless you fix your grade.

It can help if you refrain yourself from doing “party-all-days.”

With those grades the OP won’t get a college degree anywhere. Not getting a degree from Prestigious U is so much worse than any degree from Podunk U.
