So, my son is at 6/8 acceptances so far, including honors college at Rutgers and Virginia Tech, Northeastern etc.
The commonality between the ones he got accepted and the one he did not is that he got an email in advance about when the results will be released for all the ones where he got in. While he didn’t get any communication from colleges where he was rejected (MIT, Penn).
Is this a co incidence or a good sign indeed if you get a email about upcoming results.
I know a lot of us always like to figure out what some of the hidden signs might be in the application itself, I was wondering if this is another one.
Has anyone got an email about an upcoming result but not gotten in that college?
Coincidence most likely. Although it does seem that colleges wouldn’t bother to send emails to students about the release date…if they weren’t going to be accepted…
That was my original thought…just like getting letters from financial aid asking if you have completed your application. That’s not an indication of acceptance either.
Some schools announce decision dates in advance, while others don’t. For those that do, they may email applicants, announce on social media, or post a notice on the portal (or do more than one of these) - but they do it for all applicants.
Regarding MIT: they used to email applicants but their RD release date is very well known - 3/14 at 6:28pm, so maybe they stopped? (Or the email was missed?)
Penn does send emails five to seven days in advance of releasing decisions. Was your student denied in the ED round? RD decisions will come out on Ivy Day, probably in two weeks or so.
