Does it mean I will get in?

I got a email from Cornell, they asked me to send them a statement of second major because they are finalizing my material and need it for the faculty, does it mean if my statement is decent, then I will get in?

Can’t tell. But I’d say it’s more a good sign than a bad sign, naaa mean?

it sounds like you are being considered for another major because your first major was impacted…so maybe…

seems like they want to accept me if I can give them a good statement of intended second major because it is also my current major now. I feel like I got great chance, I dont know.

I don’t understand what kind of email you received from them. But one fact is when your primary intended major department reject your application, other department(for example, ‘other department’ is most likely to be the department of your current major in your current school) could review your application. I got this answer when I asked one of Cornell Engineering officer.

so that means my primary intended major has rejected my application, however, since my second indented major is my current major, so the department my second major in could review it again?
Should I post my email here?

Exactly. Even other departments might review you application if secondary intended major department rejects your application(According to an Engineering officer) But I’m pretty sure there is at least two chances, like I said, your primary target department and second intended major department. Drop me a private message if you want me to see the email you’ve got.

Are applications generally reviewed by the individual department? It makes sense, but I didn’t know that.

As for Cornell transfer admission process, that’s true.

Greetings from Cornell! We are finalizing your materials to be sent to
our faculty for review, but we need one last piece of information from
you at this time.

In the event that your application is reviewed for admission to your
second choice of major, Mechanical Engineering, it would be very helpful
for the faculty in that department to have a solid understanding of your
interest in this major. To this end, we request that you submit a brief
statement (maximum 250 words) explaining your interest in your second
choice of major. You can submit this statement to me via email or via
fax at 607.255.0971.

Please submit this statement within two weeks so that we can include
it in your application packet. Thank you very much for your prompt
attention to these items. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to
contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Best regards,
Meredith Graham

Yeah, definitely a good sign.

Actually it doesn’t mean you has been rejected by primary major because she states “In the event that your application is reviewed for admission to your
second choice of major”. But it really weird because I haven’t received this kind of email.

i agree with everything madlee has been saying…

yeah, it is a weird email. that also means i gotta wait at least two weeks until the decision releases, damn.

when you apply for engineering, you have the option to write down a second choice major on the application in the event that your primary major doesn’t fall through. however, you have to send in an additional essay at that time to support your second choice major. this email says that your application hasn’t been reviewed yet, but in the case that your first choice major is denied, you have a statement of support for your second choice major. i got an email about this too (along with other things), but i didn’t apply for a second choice major, so i didn’t need to send another essay in. this doesn’t mean that your primary major has been rejected…it doesn’t make that clear. it makes more sense to think that your application hasn’t been reviewed yet, so it’s no big deal really.

p reepa got the perfect answer. But it brings me another question. I also applied for Engineering and my primary intended major is compuer science and second is Electrical Engineering. But I haven’t received this email… I’m not sure whether they simply didn’t sent me this message yet or they think I don’t need to send it. But it seems that this Email is supposed to be sent to all Engineering applicant. That’s weird.

well, did you send in an additional essay of intent for your second choice major (electrical engineering)? if so, you probably wouldn’t get the email. i figured this out after i got in touch with the admissions office, so it should be somewhat accurate. if your application is complete, then it seems likely that there’s nothing missing from your application.

No, I submitted an essay only for my primary major. I think I should contact them or something

hmm, I dont understand why didnt they ask us submit the statement for second major earlier.

I got the answer today morning. An officer told me that they haven’t sent me that Email because their process on my application did not reach a certain stage. This means we might have to wait a few more weeks from now.
