Also, how often does it rain?

I like overcast weather :)

Also, how often does it rain?

I like overcast weather :)

They told us on the tour it rains 20 days out of the year.

It never snows in Palo Alto.

It essentially never snows, though it’s possible. It rains a lot more than 20 days out of the year, I think. 20 days out of the year could be when we get significant rain. It’s often drizzly all day during the winter.

I’m from the southeast, so I wouldn’t know anything other than what they told me. It’s not like Seattle-rainy though, is it?

And do you get a lot of fog like you do in SF?

I don’t know of any place in CA that is Seattle-rainy. Every now and then we’ll get a big storm, but that’s annual. The other periods of rain are usually light.

There is no fog, and the weather is pretty much perfect (though SoCal people often complain that it’s cold).

The East Coast people that I know complain that Palo Alto has the worst combination. Rain and cold. Some people prefer dry and cold.

I live in the Bay Area, 5 miles from Palo Alto, Unlike San Francisco, it is NOT foggy and cold most days - it is SF that is more Seattle like. It is sunny most days of the year. In winter, there are a LOT of beautiful sunny days. Some days in winter are like today - overcast and wet. If you check the average monthly highs and lows, you will see it is VERY pleasant to be outdoors all year. In the summer, it is warm during the day, never humid, and cools down at night quite a bit.

I have lived back East, and I have lived here, and it’s no contest - this is God’s own weather! Any east coaster complaining about this being the ‘worst combination’ have either never been here, or are kidding themselves - check today’s (or any day’s) weather if you want some hard facts!

And in the 25 years I have lived here, it has snowed 3 times. But in the winter, you can see snow on the hilltops surrounding us (this part of the Bay Area is a valley, otherwise known as Silicon Valley!) Since we get our rain in the winter, it’s lovely to look at then - the low foothills go green, and the taller ones are snowcrested.

Lol. How is the weater there right now? Its freezing here in NYC.

Overcast and wet with a high of 64 and a low of 46 :)

As you’ve probably guessed, I love this place! And having just got back from a trip to Boston and Maine, I love it more!

Opqpop…having lived in the Palo Alto area for 19 years I can remember only one time that it snowed…it was very cool (being that I was in 7th grade), very fun, but it melted by lunch time. That being said, the peninsula (as that side of the Bay area is called) is very temperate.

Not sure where you are coming from, but unless you’re from Arizona or S. Cal you will find the weather quite pleasant…sweaters in the fall and spring, a jacket and raincoat for the winter. As kids we often wore down vests or jackets, but I think that was more for the ‘cool factor’ as opposed to the ‘cold factor’. Layering is the key. And though I am in S. Cal now, I miss the change of seasons that is more noticeable in the Bay area.

It has snowed here twice during the last forty-eight years. Everyone was delighted, but the snow melted within several hours. It is very temperate…people who go to school at SU usually hang around after graduation because it’s hard to beat the weather.

Man… I want to go to Stanford! I have lived my whole life in the Snow Belt of northeastern Ohio. It is absolutely freezing right now and there is a ton of snow on the ground and roads. Ugh.

Stanford sounds like a dream. Just over a week left…

Good luck! It’s in the hands of the fates now:) Although I am sensitive to any temperature below 65 degrees (yes, being raised here does have it’s disadvantages), and wear a jacket in winter (like today, when it’s 65), most kids wear tee shirts and shorts year round. Rain also depends on the fates…it’s impossible to predict, and usually very welcome when it comes just to break up the monotony of nice weather:)
San Francisco, however, is cold by my standards, especially in summer (and Mark Twain agrees with me). It’s forty miles north. Snow is three hours away, if you get homesick.

Bit cloudy today in the bayarea.

BTW: Unlike the East/Midwest, the weather is never a topic of discussion. We don’t even discuss earthquakes!!

How warm does it get in Palo Alto? Does it ever get over 80 degrees, I like warm/hot temperatures and I’m from the Northeast, where it does get that hot but also gets in the teens.

It can reach ~100 in the summer and ~40 in the winter.
And I don’t count, but I’m pretty sure it rains more than 20 days a year

I live about 15 minutes away from the campus, and it is hardly ever around 100 degrees in the summer. Count on only one week in the hundreds, maybe two, and that is if there is a heat wave. We mostly have 80 degree weather in the summer.

It’s extremely rare for it to hit 100 - no more than a day or two a year, if that. Every summer there are a few ‘heat waves’ where it hits the high 90s for a few days, but by and large, it’s in the 80s in summer. Check highs, lows and averages - that will give you the picture.
