Does Kaplan work?

Hey.
So I got the Kaplan PSAT premier. And I was wondering if it works?
Like is the tests accurate? Does the strategies work?

Thanks!

I used Kaplan to study for the LSATs 30 years ago.

They have a great track record.

I raised my 610 verbal SAT score to a 660 LSAT score, so I was happy with them.

Practice test #1 was a breeze for me. It’s about 20 points optimistic.

Practice test #2 was at least a notch harder.

I haven’t taken practice test #3 yet. Nor did I take the diagnostic (someone decided to circle in all the answers even though it’s a library book.)

And if you get bored … ;):

Okay great!

Thanks guys (:

Don’t miss this ;):

Haha. I’ll keep that in mind

Wow thats a bad typo…lol

The exact same sentence is found in several of Kaplan’s books, including its PRAXIS book. The error also appears in Kaplan’s 2006 PSAT book.

[just as in math, two negatives added make a positive - Google Search](<a href=“just as in math, two negatives added make a positive - Google Search”>just as in math, two negatives added make a positive - Google Search)

It’s pathetic to see how Kaplan, which “invests $4.5 million annually,” never bothers to correct errors.

Hell, just give me $20 bucks and a 6 pack of beer, and I’ll write a test prep manual for Kaplan that’ll blow its current prep manuals out the water.

Haha. Well I just finished taking the Diagnostic test and got a 196 (I was half asleep doing it).

It was way easy. How on earth do they spend 4.5 million on those questions?
And you should. Pay you about 20 per hour and I bet you can produce a much better test, than the test I just took

^Hey, great job! Keep it up :)!

Dorkyelmo: This (below) is like the 20th error I found in the Kaplan PSAT book ;)

http://min.us/meqS4ad

Yes, and Stanley Kaplan invented the test preparation concept. There also used to be a time when dinosaurs roamed the earth happily as the rocks cooled down. Your positive experience of 30 years ago on an unrelated test is just … that. Old and irrelevant.

Kaplan’s books range from the mediocre to the worthless. Do not use their tests.

IceQube: Pathetic. Seriously. Who writes these tests?

xiggi: I realize that, I got practically all of my math questions wrong. When I did it right… But thanks.

Below is a summary of all the mistakes I found in Kaplan’s PSAT Premier:

1 defective question (Diagnostic test, page 42, Writing section, # 10)

1 math misconception (page 173, under “Double Negatives” heading)

1 typo on practice test #3 (Writing section, page 345, #13)

So watch out Dorkyelmo :D!

As for who writes the Kaplan tests … well … the authors’ names aren’t listed. The book is “By the Staff of Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions.”

Haha I got 10 right. XD

But what edition is you Kaplan PSAT? Mine is 2011

I have the 2010 edition.

I think they changed number 10, in my book it is like this:

Sugar-free candy, through not “as healthy as” fruit, “are” the snack “of choice” for people “on a diet”.

^Yay!  :D.

What about the 3rd typo? Was that changed?

Nopppe.

But I found a mistake.

On the answer sheet for the diagnostic test for number 21, they said the answer is E, But when you look at the answer and explanations. It magically turned into a D.

So I’m happy my grade increased a bit ^_^

^Fix one mistake, create another mistake :p.

We should create a whole thread posting all the mistakes found in Kaplan books. Seriously. They need it >.<
