<p>I’m an ethnic Manchu-the Manchus number about 10 million and live mostly in NE China. However, the Manchu language is almost extinct. None of my parents/relatives speak any Manchu, but I have been learning Manchu for several years already. It is not easy as my parents were not supportive of it at first and there aren’t many resources available. But I did not give up. I want to save it from extinction, but I don’t think I can organise some project to revive Manchu anytime soon(I am not living in China now). But I think I would want to do so when I return to China some years later…Now I am concerned about my college app. I guess the admission officers probably wouldn’t even have heard of a language called Manchu, and on the app I would be considered as an East Asian.</p>
<p>Write your essay about your interest in saving Manchu and the actions you’re taking to be on track to do that. Your pursuit is unusual, so should help make your application memorable to admission officers.</p>
