im going to be a senior this coming fall and I have done some resrearch work at a lab in Uc Berkeley and UCSF. I have a pretty low GPA with 3.2 Unweighted (about 3.4 weighted) and I have a 2000 SAT score. Does anyone have any ideas what schools are within my range. What schools are reaches but possible and what are good for safeties?
Lab Research is a good EC if you plan to major in STEM but it will not overcome a low GPA. I am assuming you are in-state for California, so have you calculated your UC GPA?: http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/.
Based on GPA and SAT posted, the majority of UC’s will be Reach to Low Reach. UCSC/UCR/UCM should be good Matches.
How much can you and your family afford?
Several Cal States such as SJSU/SDSU/CSULB/CPP/CSUF are also good options. Writing about your lab research may make an interesting essay, but the UC’s are very GPA focused and essays are only part of the application package. Do you have a good explanation for your low GPA, it could help your chances? Hard to make anymore recommendations without intended major and affordability factor.
