Does legacy help with scholarships?

I’m competing for a full ride scholarship at a smaller, DII private school. I have good EC’s, recommendations, and a really high GPA, but my test scores (while they meet the scholarship requiremets) are kinda low. My sister went to the school and graduated in 2011 with the full ride scholarship. My questions is: does having a legacy like this help at all with getting a scholarship? Admissions decides which students from the college applicants will fly to the school for a competition and I really hope to get an invitation. Thanks so much.

Unless the scholarship is targeted to legacy applicants I very much doubt that would be used in deciding who gets it. It is also questionable if you would be considered legacy through your sister. That generally applies if your parents attended a college.

I agree with Erin’s Dad, though I have heard that a number of the smaller schools do look at sibling legacies with an extra push to accept. One highly selective LAC does not like to turn down a sibling with stats equal or better than the one who is an alum, for instance.

But for scholarships? I’ve never heard of sibling preferance for any of them. Though like Erin’s Dad says, there may be specific alumni scholarships. Friend of mine’s DD got an alumni award that was very sweet.
