Does "list" mean just list?

On the essays, I have had trouble figuring out exactly how I should write these essays. Right now I have them as lists in paragraph form with some explanations for select books/whatever that I enjoyed most. How is everyone else writing this? Should I provide some sort of context for works I don’t think are as well-known?

I have the same question!

It depends on what the meaning of the word “is” is.

But seriously, “list” means “list.” Do not provide context; do not turn it into an essay; just list the works. If you want to include a book’s author in parentheses, then do so (though it’s not necessary) but do not give explanations.

Follow the directions, which say to list the works.

Ive visited Columbia, and during the admissions presentation the admissions officer said specifically “When we ask you to list, just list them. We dont need any explanations.”
