Does majoring in Graphic Design and English make sense?

I really like both but I don’t know if these two correlate with each other well. Any jobs that needs both?

I had considered the same when I was a freshman (ended up majoring in psychology). I was interested in graphic design and the writing portion of the English degree, not literature. Every profession would like a good communicator, both written and verbal. And if you’re designing a piece with a lot of writing in it, then good editing skills as a copywriter is always valued. Further, with the lit. analysis, you would have a nice mix of creative and analytical training which can transfer to various aspects of your work in both fields, whichever you pursue (or even if you pursue something completely different).

If you start planning it out early then you could certainly do it, although depending on the curriculums you may need to do summer courses to graduate on time, or have an extra semester. If you really love both, then go for both. Or major in the field you want to work in and minor in the other, or just take courses that interest you. Even though I majored in psychology I took numerous writing and art courses.

I suppose you could say the English degree carries aspects of journalism due to the writing. I think they go well together. English isn’t an “easy” major in comparison to journalism or communications, imo, and you get technical skills from graphic design.
