Hello all,
I’m applying to MIT as a RD this year, and I am wondering…
Does any of you happen to know if MIT actually calls your school office to check your current grades? (Not the mid-year report ones… current ones)

Thank you!

Thank you!

It’s not a general practice for them, but it’s not impossible, either.

We call for MYR.

^ Even for Internationals ??

I am sure they do some check for International too. They are not naive.

<a href=“The China Conundrum - The New York Times”>The China Conundrum - The New York Times;

***** China, a consulting company that advises American colleges and universities about China, last year published a report based on interviews with 250 Beijing high school students bound for the United States, their parents, and a dozen agents and admissions consultants. The company concluded that 90 percent of Chinese applicants submit false recommendations, 70 percent have other people write their personal essays, 50 percent have forged high school transcripts and 10 percent list academic awards and other achievements they did not receive.

oooo … that’s some pretty neat stuff pal … glad they do check things up … so like they only do the checking for the applicants they are interested in or everyone on their checklist ??

If I use my magical mod powers to send my post above to the internet memory hole, do I get to continue never being wrong on the internet? ;)

Your post was correct mollie! We don’t call for random mid-semester grades. We’ll call if a student hasn’t sent in a MYR sometimes and we think it might make a difference on the case. But it’s not general practice to just cold-call a guidance counselor and grill them.
