I was on this MIT admissions webpage:

[MIT Admissions | Info For Schools & Counselors: What We Look For In Applicants](http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/schools/what_we_look_for/index.shtml)

Where it says “MIT makes a special effort to recruit and admit highly qualified candidates from all socio-economic levels, as well as traditionally underrepresented minority groups: African American, Native American, Mexican American, and Puerto Rican.”

…I’m Peruvian American…so does MIT not consider me as a URM?

You still count as Hispanic and can check off the relevant box on your MIT app. It’s just that the named groups are the most underrepresented groups.

However, I will point out that a large majority of Peruvians are fully or partially Amerindian. Are you? If I remember correctly (I can’t find an actual pdf to look), MIT will let Central & South American Amerindians check the Native American box as well as those from recognized US tribes, though you probably want to double-check that.

hmmm…yeah i probably do have some indigenous blood (practically everyone in Peru has at least some)…but i’ll look more into it

Thanks for pointing that out
