Does MIT like politically interested computer engineers-hopefuls? I feel like I have a passion for politics/economics, but I’d want to be a computer engineer/entrepreneur for a career and college major. Would doing speech and debate in a political event still be relevant to the MIT adcoms?

It would certainly be interesting. I know a handful of 17-type CS people :)

absolutely!

There’s no reason your high school ECs have to relate absolutely to what you want to major in or have a career in. It’s not a problem for MIT if the ECs you’re passionate about as a high-schooler don’t related to your eventual career goals.

At any rate, engineers and entrepreneurs need to be convincing arguers and eloquent speakers, for sure.

As someone who considers themselves interested in both computers and management (and a little politics) I can say that MIT helps students reach out with non-existent barriers between departments. MIT was also a pioneer of the multi-disciplinary organizational structure of labs and centers.

The only problem I am facing now is trying to explain what I do to job recruiters ;)
