Since they may consider the fact math boys are a ton more than math girls?
So if you are fairly outstanding in math among girls would you have a chance to get into mit with luck?

[MIT Office of the Provost, Institutional Research](<a href=“MIT Institutional Research”>MIT Institutional Research) It looks as though the chances are better for a female. It’s still only around a 20% chance.

Yes, it helps a tad to be female into math. You’re in demand.

What do you mean, math girls? Girls interested in majoring in math?

It’s a common misconception that being female will give one a “boost” at MIT. Furthermore, major choice has a negligible effect on your admissions decision (they kinda realize that teenagers are fickle creatures).

Yup. Why not?

So, wht do you mean?the stats show girls who applied to MIT tend to get into MIT easier

Girls who apply to MIT are more likely to be academically qualified than guys who apply to MIT.

That’s because the female candidate pool is self selecting and more competitive as a whole.

It’s not a result of relaxed admission criteria for females - there are enough competitive applicants in either gender to fill multiple cohorts.

If you are another Emmy Noether, I am sure you will easily get in.

How about Emma Watson? XD

True. Good point.
But i heard it’s true math girls are easier to get into caltech. Caltech offers full ride for those qualified for USAMO.

There are way too many USAMO qualifiers at CalTech for them to give out full rides…

Caltech doesn’t offer merit scholarships any more. And Caltech doesn’t admit people based on major either, so your “it’s true math girls are easier to get into Caltech” is just false on those grounds alone. And USAMO never guaranteed merit money even when merit scholarships were offered, considering I know several people who did USAMO, and definitely received no merit money.

You shouldn’t just believe everything you hear.

The acceptance rate for girls is higher, but I don’t know if that equates to “appreciate more.”

To quote my friend, “we’re all about the same skill level, but I’m a girl so I get all these extra opportunities”. Being female doesn’t automatically give you extra points towards admission. BUT, things like mop are much easier to get into if your female. Last year I think you needed a 7/42 on usamo if you were a girl (cgmo), 8/42 for freshmen (red mop), 18/42 for most guys (blue mop), and 28/42 for seniors (black mop)

True. But, on the other hand, not many girls are willing to apply for a college like mit n caltech, since not many girls want to major in math related. Also, to some extent, those girls who’ve got extra oppotunities and other speciality like excel at writing and biochem may more willing to apply for those top medical colleges, say, john hopkins.
