Does Moving Impact my chances?

Currently as a Junior I’ve been to 4 different high schools and am going to finish my senior year off at a fifth one. One of the moves were to Dubai and the school there was very rigorous but did not offer any Honor level classes or AP classes for Sophomores. My overall GPA is a 3.7 unweighted and I have a 1250 SAT score; however, the only year that is causing my GPA to be lower is the Sophomore year in Dubai. None of these moves were because of negative things but rather my father’s Job. I’m very interested in studying mechanical engineering at a school like Georgia Tech or UT Austin(I lived in both of those places and could apply as in-state). Overall do you think these moves are going to have a negative impact on my application at those schools due to my GPA being lower as well as having a lower SAT score than the average. If so could you recommend alternative schools which have good programs. Thank you.

Your GC is critical here: they need to mention the frequency of your moves, which is extreme by any standard and ideally note how well you have handled it. Getting an LoR from one of your current teachers might be helpful, as your teachers in the autumn will only know you for a few weeks before they have to start writing lit.

Your bigger problem for Ga Tech is that your SAT is well below average, and you can’t really blame a lower SAT on moving.

Are you sure that you qualify as instate for both Texas and Georgia?

Fortunately, engineering is pretty flat- you can get a good engineering degree lots of places. Have you looked at costs yet?

Costs are not an issue but yeah I can qualify in-state for both because of not only owning houses but paying taxes within those states-at least that is what I understood from the office I spoke to and about my SAT, well I imagined it to be too low as well, but thanks for replying.
