Hi all,

I just got my GRE scores back and I completely tanked. Here are my scores:
Verbal:450
Quantitative: 510
AW: 4.5

Yet my CV is somewhat commendable. I have a lot of conference presentations as well as several journal publications. I am set to release a book in the Fall of 2012 in my area of specialty. I double majored in history and latin yet I am afraid my GRE scores will hold me back. I am trying to get into a history program that specializes in military history. So far I a looking at UNC-Chapel Hill, Boise State, U of Oregon and Indiana U- Bloomington. I do not come from a very recognizable school. Although I do have a respectable GPA 3.87. I was wondering what everyone thought my admission chances may be.

What does CV stand for? I think your chances of getting into a top 10 could be negatively effected by your gre scores, but your gpa, pubs, etc… are certainly eye-catching.

Do you know why you tanked?

Was it a bad day or did you just not study enough?

Besides that everything seems good. Retake and Reapply.

Yeah I know exactly why I tanked. I went into anaphylaxis due to an unknown allergy to walnuts. I know thats not a good excuse to put into a personal essay but thats what skewed my scores.

Jesus Christ you must take the test again. Most schools require a minimum score of 1000 anyway.

I want to know how you took the “old” GRE. Is it not August?

I took the test in late July. I cannot retake the test because I cannot afford the testing fee. So I am stuck with the scores I have.

Your verbal will really hurt you for history programs. But the fact that you have a book coming out would support the idea that it was a bad test day. I would contact professors/DGSes to find out if there are hard minimums.

it sounds like you have a valid excuse, you probably shouldn’t worry too much.

The new test is 50% off of the regular fee through September.

HAHAHAHAHA
Nicely done, OP.

I can’t believe you guys are this dumb. Watch out for those walnuts…lol
