<p>TOPIC:1. Elaborate on one or more extracurricular activities. This could include sports, artistic, social services, work, or other activities. A description of your experiences and how they have affected you as an individual is more helpful to the committee than a list. Include years of involvement, nature of position, any leadership roles, and/or title, if applicable.</p>
<p>Im standing in the middle of the field at the United States Naval Academy. There are about 20,000 fans or so in the stands, all eager to hear who will be crowned as the 2007 USSBA Grand National Champion Marching Band. The excitement builds as the announcer proclaims, The North Penn Marching Knights! Five months of hard work and dedication finally pays off as we are crowned the best marching band in the United States. Surprisingly enough, this was nothing out of the ordinary for us. Our national championship win came only one week after winning our tenth consecutive state championship.
As easy as it seems on paper, this extraordinary accomplishment was far from an easy task. It started with nine hour practices everyday for the last three weeks of August. While most high school students are off at the beach enjoying their summer, I was striving everyday to achieve an immense goal. When school started, we continued practicing everyday, for three hours a day. When I wasnt at band, I was trying to get all my homework done with the short time I had left. Friday nights and all day Saturday were just what you expected, more practice. It was not easy, nor at times was it always fun. But that is part of what I got out of band; not everything in life is fun, and if you want it bad enough, you have to work for it. If you work hard enough, you can achieve anything. These foundations set me up for everything I will do in my life, and it occurred much earlier than expected.<br>
After band season, I got a part-time job as a Sales Associate at Finish Line; the perfect job for me considering my love for sports. At Finish Line, I was an immediate impact, breaking all eight sales records in my first six months of working. I even gained up enough courage to write and speak my own sermon in front of three congregations at our churchs annual Youth Sunday. It is possible to say that without having learned everything I did in band; I would not be at the point in which I am today. There is no doubt in my mind that I will carry with me all of these characteristics, not only into the University of Pittsburgh, but in every step I take in life. </p>
