<p>For the Common App essay, I was planning to write about the essay choice in which you describe an issue that you face. I tutor at an inner-city (read poor) middle school in which the students, on average, read at about a 2nd grade level. I was planning to write about on instance I had in which a sixth grade student was trying to do her multiplication homework but didn’t know her basic math facts (including addition). I wanted to expand on this idea and show the disparity between “poor” and “rich” schools in terms of academics and to show how special needs kids are cared for in both instances. Does my idea sound to boring?</p>
<p>If you can write in a personal, detailed, honest and revealing manner about this topic, the essay won’t be boring.</p>
<p>But be careful that the essay doesn’t turn out to be too much “issue” and not enough “you”.</p>
