If they do look at them, how do they regard both of them, for example freshman year equally to sophomore and junior year, or senior grades more so, etc.

In general, your overall GPA is important, e.g., should be in the 3.7 area for CAS.

So for Regular Decision, all grades are looked at, from Freshman year through Senior year first semester, trimester or (second?) quarter. However, it is generally better to show an upward curve in grades through HS years. I would say the Junior year grades are relatively more important since it really would be the most recent full year of grades showcasing your performance before you send in your application to the colleges. In Early Decision or Early Action cases, the school will not see the Senior year grades if you are on a semester system but will see quarter grades.
