Does Off Campus Look Bad to Colleges?

Im currently a junior in high school and my school starts this week. I’m hoping to attend an elite university such as Georgetown, Columbia, Yale, etc… . I currently have about a 4.35 4.4 weighted GPA. However this year I’m taking two off campuses, both for my last period (we’re on block schedule). I was wondering if college admission officers look poorly upon this and think I’m lazy or something. My current classes at the high school are AP Bio, AP Lang, AP Calc AB, AP Calc BC, Physiology, and Ceramics. In addition to this I took US History at community college and will be taking Sociology at community college this fall semester which allows me to take these off periods. So basically I’m wondering if college will frown upon the off campuses or if they will see I took two additional courses at community college in lieu of those periods. Also the reason I want to take these off periods is to devote more time to homework/studies, my club trying to raise money, and my biking team. Just a little side note, my school is on block schedule so we get 4 classes per semester which change when the next 2nd semester starts so I guess in a year you can take up to 8 classes which I will take 6 at my high school and 2 at community college. So for my junior year i will have take 4 AP’s , 2 college classes, 1 regular level class and 1 elective which seems rigorous enough to me

Bump. Am I posting in the wrong section? I patted a similar question in sane section a few months ago also and got no replies and this is really worrying me

It sounds like you’re just taking “off-campus” periods just because you’re taking community college classes. This is normal/expected. In fact, sometimes you HAVE to do this in order to get to those classes on time.

It may be helpful in your college applications to explain that the “Off Campus” periods were in your schedule because of the college course enrollment, but they will probably figure that out on their own. No need to explain it as needing more time for studying.

Will many of the applicants to “elite university such as Georgetown, Columbia, Yale, etc” have taken more courses and fewer free periods? Yes. Does that mean yours will “look bad”? Well, no.

Best of luck.

You’ll send both your high school and CC transcripts to the colleges. They’ll see what classes you took that way and will understand. No sweat.

Your schedule sounds rigorous enough to me, too.
