Does one have a chance?

Could a community college student get into say Washington university or university of California berkeley as a transfer? I know the Ivy League is probably not even a possibility so I’m trying to see the options I will have if i end up going to community college. Please tell me if I’m reaching a little far or tell me some things I could do to get into one of the school I mentioned as a transfer. I’m thinking of trying to get better at my art to use it for admissions but yeah. Do I have a chance?

@CollegeHopeful82 There is always a possibility of getting into both of your choices. Many of my past classmates at my current CCC have gone on to UC Berkeley, Stanford, etc. These students were STEM majors so I don’t have much insight on your art major. However, the work ethic they developed and the skills they learned at a community college allowed them to be competitive students and in the end be accepted to top universities.

I agree with the above poster. I taught at a community college for years and have worked privately with several clients from community colleges; the students with 3.8+ GPAs gained acceptance to a wide range of top-tier institutions. For female applicants, I’ve found Wellesley/Smith/Mount Holyoke to be particularly transfer-friendly. Some of the very best students (4.0 GPA, Phi Theta Kappa, etc.) have made it to the Ivy League. It definitely can happen if you have the grades and select rigorous courses.

@CollegeHopeful82 Of course! Being from a CC doesn’t exclude you from consideration into top colleges. Get good grades and apply to them!
