Let in anyone with less than stellar stats?

My interviewer talked a lot about how while Penn could stack their incoming class with the smartest students in the country, they like to have a little diversity. (I.E. lower stats but interesting ECs, etc).

Of course - a class of just 2300’s+ would be pretty boring. Plus Penn is noted for its performing arts troupes - singing, dancing and whatnot, we need to keep them filled.

Yes many get in with stats in that range each year. Though in the minority it is not uncommon. There are even two or three within Wharton who got in with stats in that range ED.

i don’t know, maybe my standards are low (or my stats are low), but i don’t think those stats are that low. i guess they are very low compared to the average.

I’d say when it comes to below the median scores, its probably better to have a lopsided score. I have a few friends who had in the low 1300s but it was distributed 790/800 verbals against 550 maths, while I’ve never heard of a 650/650 getting in.

By the way, the first week of freshman year everyone talks about what schools they got into to, and what their SAT scores were. It’s kinda wierd.
