Does Penn use a "holistic" process?

Does Penn use a “holistic” process when they make admissions decisions?

All the colleges using the CommonApp use a holistic process.
Otherwise, they would not make you write that many essays in the supplemental section or conduct interviews.

Thanks. But arent interviews optional and mean nothing in admissions?

I don’t think that they mean absolutely nothing. They may not be the most important factor, but if you e.g. turn out to be very shy, rude… it will certainly influence your admission decision.

What is the holistic process? Please tell me

It’s when your admission decision is not solely based on grades and test scores, but includes some personal elements as well such as essays, recommendations and interviews.
