Does protesting a citation actually work?

I think I have legitimate grounds for protesting a citation I received for not paying a fare for public transportation (first time using it; operator let me on without saying anything when I gave him the ticket that I didn’t know wouldn’t have worked). Has anyone actually got a citation revoked by sending in a protest?

i protested a parking ticket once, no luck. the officer claimed that a temporary “no parking” sign was posted on some street during the week. but i didnt see it, when i parked there that morning. after school, when i came back, the sign was posted(w/ specified “no parking hours”), and a newly minted parking ticket was on my windshield. is it my fault some lazy fat cop forgot to put the sign up the night before, or earlier that morning? no, but thats life.

Yeah, I protested a $200 failure to yield to a pedestrian citation, and got it reduced to $100 in traffic court.
