I posted my stats above and i wanted to see if raising my gpa would have a big factor in college admissions. Now i started taking advanced high school classes in 8th grade(Bio, Spanish, Alg 1, and debate ) while i consider myself smart, i WAS A SLACKER. i got C’s and D’s in bio, A “C” Alg 1, an “A” in Spanish, and a “B” in debate. I then moved onto high-school not really caring and got above average (not great A’s and majority B’s) grades and started off my high school experience ranked 216 out of 6XX students. I then had aspirations of attending Chicago and Columbia and decided it was time to get my stuff together. I started taking Ap physics, psych, and world sophomore year and as I’m nearing the end of it I’ve gotten all A’s and have boosted my ranking up 157 spots and have elected to take 6/7/8 Ap classes junior year (Environmental, Gov, US, Lang, Seminar, Music theory, 2d Art, and maybe Statistics if i take pre-calc over the summer. I also know that senior year i will take a minimum of 7 Ap’s and I’m confident in my ability to pass the exam and get A’s. I was wondering if this dramatic increase in gpa and class rank(which i believe i will be in the top 5%) will look good and even comparable to students that maintained a perfect 4.0.

I think as long as you explain your story, colleges will understand. I heard that showing growth/improvement over time can actually be a good thing. Having bad grades and then improving makes you seem like a real person on your apps. I wouldn’t worry too much, but that’s just my opinion.

Upward trends are positive. Some schools don’t even look at 9th grade grades.

8th grades grades won’t be looked at by colleges at all so don’t worry about that.

Don’t overload on APs. It’s unnecessary
