I applied to a school early decision and the decisions come out in about 10 days. They have been emailing me back and forth for about 3 weeks trying to figure out my state residency. Is it possible I’ve been admitted? Or can they not review my application without knowing my residency? I feel like if I got rejected they wouldn’t be asking for my information, but it’s possible they just haven’t reviewed it yet.
Sounds like it is a public university? I don’t think your residency should matter for a private.
Yes, public.
I assume we are talking about William and Mary, based on your other threads.
W&M tries to keep a 65%/35% in-state/OOS split, in-state students have a higher rate of acceptance than OOS students. https://www.wm.edu/admission/undergraduateadmission/facts-figures/admission-stats/index.php
Tuition is much higher for OOS students. Financial aid is also different for OOS students (don’t meet full need) than in-state (meet full need…I think).
It sounds like it is not clear to admissions right now as to what bucket you fall into…in-state or OOS. I encourage you to give them all the information they need and suggest calling them on the phone rather than emailing.
Posters here can probably help you if there is a confusing issue or extenuating circumstances with regard to state residency.
Good luck.
