Does school prestige matter?

Hello all.

I was wondering if where you get your Doctorate degree affect your job placement/chances.

Would graduating from a tier 1 school look better than a tier 3 or 4 school when looking for a job?

Will going to a tier 3 or 4 school lower your chances of getting a job compared to other students who graduated from a tier 1 school?

Absolutely, think about that. There is a reason why these positions are so coveted. Is there a difference between Harvard and Rutgers? (nothing against RU) Of course, in terms of alumni/network, quality of student body (best students “typically” go to best programs), number of top recruiters. Some of the best firms just wont look at tier 3/4 schools, just like an NFL scout will probably go to Rutgers or University of Alabama before he goes to Harvard.

Hmm, that’s true.

Well if a standardized test is taken, say the NAPLEX for instance, would a higher score be more beneficial. For example If a student from Rutgers received a higher score than a student who graduated from Harvard? Would the student from Rutgers then have a higher chance of obtaining that job?
