Well I’m attending University of Pennsylvania from '08-'09. I’m a native texan and I decided to go to Penn, except thus far I really don’t like it. I understand so far it’s the 1st week of school and everything, but the social atmosphere is really more or less huge party party and campus is a little too overwhelming for me. I’m gonna give it until December to decide whether or not I end up liking Penn, and if not I will go ahead and try for Rice.

Anyhow, would trying to transfer from Penn be an advantage, rather than say someone from a state school or something? (Assuming I get a 3.5+)

You should also be aware that admissions don’t look favorably to 1st year transfers just because they don’t like it. Hope you can come up with a good compelling reason in your essay.

i’m from philly and i totally agree with you about how penn sucks and rice rocks. if i was a USNWR whore, i would just apply to Penn and get in there because my school has a special relationship with it in which 10% of the class gets into Penn every year. however i’d much rather be at rice or uchicago.

i do think that transferring from an ivy would help though.
