does senior year schedule matter?

I chose AP psychology
Calculus
AP english
AP gov
Spanish 4

Should I drop spanish 4 and take photography instead? I don’t think ill do that well in spanish 4 and the only reason I’m taking it is because princeton wants 4 years of a. Language. So what should I do? Would 4 years help my admittence?

They don’t “request” 4 yrs for no reason. Your fellow applicants will be taking very rigorous classes in spades and getting As. To realistic compete, ought you not do the same?

But based on your other posts, are you a viable candidate to Pton at all? A college with one of the smallest admit rates in the country? Frankly, you don’t seem to be a competitive candidate for schools with under 15% admit rate.

Frankly you should aim for college list that is less selective, then you have more wiggle room.

Of course sr year matters, it’s usually the year that you take the highest level coursework. IMO after jr year, it’s the most important, and since colleges will only see half a year of grades, rigor is essential for highly selective colleges.

honestly, im not asking for an opinion on whether i will get into princeton or not. my question is, would taking a fourth year of spanish help me in any way? would it seem like im not working hard enough if i took art classes? i enjoy art very much and would like to take photography.

^Whether you have a realistic shot is very important though. If you have no chance, there’s no point making yourself miserable in Spanish if you’re not getting in anyway. I haven’t seen your stats but T26E4 is generally spot on.

thanx for being more clear than me unicameral. Ptongirl: take photog if you feel that’s your desire. But also know it’s clearly not as rigorous as a 4th yr of Spanish – and a rigorous transcript is the first criteria of very selective schools.

But that’s the option you take – one is not better than the next if you’re fully aware of the ramifications of each choice. Best of luck to you

by spanish 4, do you mean your fourth year taking spanish? because spanish 4 usually means the fourth spanish class every taken. like your 4th semester of taking spanish. 2 semesters of spanish is equal to 1 year of spanish. so in order to take 4 years of spanish, you need to take spanish 1-8

^Most schools number by the year (ie. Spanish 4 = 4th year of Spanish, not second sem of second year).

^ oh, i didn’t know that. in southern california, it goes by semester. thanks

Yes it matters. You will be in direct competition with students that have Spanish 4, Spanish 5, and AP Spanish. If a school gives you a list of what they are looking for it’s what the most competitive candidates will have and more. You certainly can choose something else, however know that you will be at a disadvantage. It comes down to…how bad do you want it? It also comes down to how competitive are you to begin with? If you honestly are a snowballs chance in hades then why make yourself miserable for an admit that is unlikely to happen. If you have an exceptionally strong application then it’s probably worth it. My son had to make this decision about Spanish 5. Only one school on his list cared. He was a competitive candidate. He did take the class, and was accepted. It’s all about choices. They do matter.
