Does SET automatically place into CTYOnline courses?

Hello, I am in 8th grade and scored 2370 on the SAT in January (I know, I know). I did not, however, register specially for CTY before taking the SAT Exam. Since I qualify for SET (Birthday is 9/8/99, so I needed to have above 750, scores: 790 CR 800 Math 780 Writing), if I register for it, I was wondering if I automatically can take CTYOnline courses. Keep in mind that I took CTY courses up to precalculus in 6th grade, so I want to take AP Calc in 9th grade in CTY(school won’t let me).

Proof of scores will come if requested.

Not sure if correct forum… I heard other people talking about CTY here but idk…

Pretty sure it won’t be a problem. In fact if you are already in the CTY system it’s unlikely to be a problem.

What if I want to reregister with a new account?

I don’t understand why you asked these questions when you have already taken CTY classes up to 6th grade. Did your parents sign up for your CTY classes? You already finished precalculus therefore it’s naturally you will progress to calculus. You did not receive any email, mail from CTY to invite you to take higher classes? CTY normally does that. The SAT cut-off scores for most CTY classes are not higher than 700.

Why do you want to register with a new account? You don’t want to keep your past records?

I suggest that you (or your parent) just call CTY on Tuesday and discuss with them.

I posed a question and coolweather didn’t answer it. The question is in the title. coolweather only asked more questions.

CTY online courses and on-site summer courses have the same cut-off score requirement. It’s probably more difficult to get into on-site summer courses because of space limit. You are never required to qualify for SET to take online courses. You are only required to meet the cut-off score at the age you take the SAT. Once you are qualified for a CTY class, you can continue to next level class as long as you pass the prerequisite class and the SAT score does not matter anymore.

If you have not taken any CTY classes before then your SET scores will qualify for any class you want as long as you meet the prerequisite for that class. In short, you are fine.

One last thing: You published too many details about you here and in another thread. You should remove them. People will use them for bad things.

Don’t know why you’d want to reregister, but really I don’t know why posters ask questions like this here. It would be so much easier to just email or call CTY and you’d actually know the answer was accurate.

No need to reregister. If you took lower level CTY classes in 6th grade, you are already in the system - you just need to have your scores sent to CTY. Not sure why you wouldn’t have done that if you took them in 8th grade - where did you send your free score reports?

^^CTY was not answering my calls, probably because it was weekend. Will call them sometime today.

And don’t forget, just because you qualified for SET, it doesn’t necessarily follow that CTY classes are the best fit. My son, also a SET member, never took any of the expensive CTY, OHS, or CTD classes online-waaay out of our budget.

AoPS (Art of Problem Solving) is a good option. True, they don’t give you “official” transcripts, but they are wonderfully challenging for kids who need that challenge.

Other options: PA Homeschoolers AP classes are supposed to be very rigorous.

If you google AP classes online, you should find a number of good options that might be worth checking into.
