I believe I’ve seen a couple people on waitlists mention that they shouldn’t expect to hear anything until June…as opposed to this week, now that reservations are due.

And I got word this week about FA from one school, saying that they hope to have additional funds free up in June.

Is there something about June that I’m not aware of? Is it when students learn that they failed a grade and can’t attend BS? Is it when they (or their parents) get cold feet about BS? Is that when current students decide to go elsewhere, freeing up spaces (and FA)? Obviously I’m grasping for answers here. Does anyone KNOW why? And if you don’t KNOW what’s so magical about June, feel free to try out some ideas of your own.

Thanks.

I think that additional payments are due in June. I will check on this, but that is what I remember from my other kids.

I’ve heard all of the reasons that you’ve mentioned. Also, some kids stick it out through the first year because they’re on the hook for the tuition, but decide not to stay and to do something else. Some will quietly apply closer to home, etc. but don’t want to notify their school until they get their final grades. I’ve also heard that kids don’t always end up with the same amount of financial aid from year to year and sometimes can’t make up the difference. Makes you wonder that if they’re not exceptionally strong academically that their financial aid can be affected as well. Just what a friend mentioned to me.

I looked at my enrollment contract letter. It says, “Note that the deposit is not refundable unless you formally request a refund by June 1, 2007.” There is a July tuition payment, but I guess people can back out of their commitment without penalty by June 1.

This is all very interesting…and instructive…and exhausting.

Thank you all who replied. These little milestones continue to appear on the horizon and I’m a weary traveler just looking to rest his tired dogs at the Inn.

It’s like driving down I-95 and you start seeing those Pedro billboards…and they keep appearing…and then you see some more…and you wonder if you will ever get there.

The bigger question for me…as I await news about more $$$…is if it will be just like a drive down I-95 and despite all the anticipation and build-up…will I decide to keep driving by anyway?

You remind me of myself when I was younger, D’yer (last year). Hard questions to answer. The good (?) news is that whatever happens this spring, you’ll be repeating the process for college before too long.

Good luck and let us all know how it turns out.

D’yer, though you may be weary, I know you’ll do fine. You’re very involved, well informed and I’m sure you’ll end up pulling in the right parking lot. Best of luck while you wait.

Then again…I’m a guy and I’m loathe to stop and ask for directions.

Has anyone actually stayed at “South of the Border”? (I almost typed Boarder…I wonder why?)

I happened to need gas as we were reaching Dillon, SC, so I stopped at that exit and drove through the place and then back onto the Interstate at the next exit to the south, but we didn’t even get out to stretch legs or buy some tacky souvenir. (Okay, that was a cheap shot: I’m just going out on a limb about the tacky part.)
