<p>It’s an elective, but at most selective colleges, it is required to have 3-4 years of the same foreign language, so it’s an important elective if you don’t already have languages in your courses. Some colleges only require 1 or 2 years, but they could still recommend 3-4 years total, so know what colleges you plan to apply and be prepared.</p>
