Does taking a SAT course help with my chances of getting a higher score?

Hello!
I’m currently considering enrolling in a SAT course for math and literature to increase my chances. I’m currently a sophomore with a gpa of 3.5 (4.4 on a scale of 5.0) I want to go to college in The US however, I don’t feel my school is providing me with the material needed to receive a high score in the SAT. A private college is offering preparation courses and they’re quite expensive, I want to know if these classes truly help or are they jusst a waste of time? Has anyone had experience with them? (I will be taking the classes at FSU, they opened a branch here)

First of all, nobody can give you a honest opinion(only a person who have been at FSU classes) from the private college sessions. Some of them are really helpful but others… I have heard so many stories about bad tutors but I think that the students must study as well. Try to get the famous BB. What’s your score right now?

I haven’t taken the SAT test, yet. I’m really scared of taking it which is why I thought of maybe enrolling in the classes and seeing if it helped me get a higher score. My country’s education system it’s pretty different from the US’ so instead of algebra, I’m taking arithmetics (we use the bachillerato system which is like the IB but we focus on what we want to study in college and since I chose business, now I’m having arithmetic and calculus and more business focused classes while still in high school)
I have a question, what does the sat cover? Does it cover American History and topics like that? or is it just math, literature, the essay and grammar?

Go thru all the threads that already have been posted around CC, but just to answer your concern of the topics of the SAT.
The SAT tests the skills you’re learning in school: reading, writing and math. Your strength in these subjects is important for success in college and throughout your life.

The reading section includes reading passages and sentence completions.
The writing section includes a short essay and multiple-choice questions on identifying errors and improving grammar and usage.
The math section includes questions on arithmetic operations, algebra, geometry, statistics and probability.

From the college board website.

Does a sat prep class will help? Well, that is opt to you, for some do help for others not at all. I recommend you take a sat practice test and see where you stand.
