I just got accepted to be Staff Relations in Leadership. Does this look good in college applications.? (I hope so ~ )

Class as in elective? It will look better than some things I suppose, however you actually having leadership experience in the real world will look much better than whatever a class does on leadership. Then again, I donât really know what âStaff Relations in Leadershipâ means or what you do in there, but I would have to think having an actual leadership position and an academic class in lieu of that would be better.

Exactly! This is exactly why having this class on your transcript will not âlook great.â Judging the class only by its title, I kind of expect it to be a lot of gobbledygook, with some âteam buildingâ thrown in for good measure. Probably better on your transcript than âOffice Aide,â but it has nowhere near the gravitas of, say, AP Biology or starting an additional foreign language.

If I am misjudging, and it actually is a course where something of substance happens, you might want to ask your guidance to mention that fact in his or her letter.

Well, staff relations gives appreciation to the teachers, and also helps out our high school.

But thanks for the feedback :)

I donât understand why that should look great to colleges. Can you help me understand why it might?

Colleges are generally interested in attracting the best students they can. What would this say about you as a student?

Is this some kind of honor at your school? Is admission to the class competitive?

Agree with the other posters. What are you skipping in your academic schedule to allow room for this class?

Honestly, it depends on how active the class. In my school, our Student Government Association(SGA) is called leadership class on the transcript and it is a big deal to get in and they plan a lot of things like Homecoming,Pep Rallyâs etc. Being a leader in it is a big deal. But like another poster said, if it takes a lot of work, I would have your counselor clarify that. Then it would be a good EC. I also think itâs just like taking band or orchestra. ITâs an EC but itâs also a class.

@ambitious dreams and Yah dude! Itâs exactly that! Leadership is like another school âstaffâ but we lead the school, and weâre in charge of ALL events. There are all kinds of sections inside Leadership, itâs not ONLY a class that teaches you about being a leader, but it helps the school out tremendously. This class is in charge of ALL events, the money, the community services, checking the clubs, pep rallyâs, homecoming, yah you get the point.

Iâm in the staff relations section, so my job is to encourage the teachers, and give them appreciation for what theyâre doing.

I like the fact that the people in Leadership gets their names imprinted in the school planner and gets red jerseyâs with our names imprinted on them. ._. LOL anywaysâŠ

@SirkoskyâŠ^^^^

@M mom: And yes, it is rather difficult to get in the class. I had to go through an interview with the student council asking me to sit in the middle, and they pounded me with PRESSURING questions. Two people got rejected, but the rest got in (yay like me :D)

@siliconmom: I didnât give up any academic class for this. For senior year iâm taking 3 AP classes, Pre-cal, and iâm going to be an academic peer leader (that helps out strategic students) , plus this class. And plus⊠iâm leading A LOT of clubs o_0, ⊠yah i donât want to digress any further.

Does it sound great so far you guys? xD

From the way, you describe it, it will look good on a college application. Just describe the time commitment and the activities you do on college apps and you will be fine. :)

haha thanks :)

Actually, that sounds lightâŠthat sounds like four academic classes and two fluffy classes.

âŠcan you elaborate more on⊠âlight?â

Pre-cal senior year? Isnât that like, 2 years late?

As for the class itself, Iâd say it has a minimum effect. Taking another AP class would be much more beneficial. Usually people take âfluffâ classes like this to get an easy A.

I think it may depend on the colleges or universities you plan to apply to. I doubt that highly selective colleges will be impressed.

I donât think a school class dedicated to planning Homecoming events sounds very impressive. And, honestly, I think a leadership class devoted to âstaff relationsâ and â[encouraging] the teachers and [giving] them support for what theyâre doingâ sounds even less so.

I would certainly not make it the cornerstone of my application, nor would I expect any boost from it in college admissions.

Thatâs what I was thinking. Colleges would be more impressed if you took two tough classes instead of your two fluffy classes and handled the workload. Pre-cal as a senior is like a year late too, right?

⊠And I always thought taking Leadership was really beneficial for college applications. Thatâs the whole reason why I joined it. I guess I was wrong. >___< But they already put me in the class, so I donât know what excuse to say to get me out. My leadership teacher would be pretty ****ed if I quit,

What do you guys think of an academic peer leader then? Do you think thatâs worth it? Would it look great in college applications? They are like TAâs, but we help the students more in depth. Each period a day, Iâm going to be put in a strategic class to help one of the students individually with their English work.

Hm, I know thereâs no way out of Leadership⊠But if an academic peer leader isnât that great, iâd either take âadvanced bioâ or âstatsâ

They donât offer anymore AP classes, so thatâs the highest I can get.

What do you guys think?

And from what you guys said⊠I donât think Ivy Leagues would be impressed ; ~ ;⊠So I think i wonât try for them anymore.

But how about for UCâs? Would UCâs (like UCLAâŠ) be impressed?

Take your proposed senior class schedule and stop by the college counseling office at your HS. They can give you advice about the rigor of your schedule in the context of your school, and talk to you about typical outcomes from your school.

⊠The thing is, I donât like my counselor LOL.

Btw thanks for everyoneâs insightful advice :)

Thatâs why I posted on this forum, so I know what to take, and what classes look best. Would anyone care to give advice now? x)

Advanced bio (or stats)âŠvs Academic Peer Leader.

Which sounds better?

Any somewhat challenging academic class is better than Peer Leader.
