Does taking Spanish 1 in 8th grade count?

I’m a Juanito currently and I’m in Spanish 4. Does this count as four years of Spanish or only 3 because one of them was taken during middle school?

For foreign languages, it’s the level completed that matters. For almost all colleges, your situation will count as 4 years.

It does not count the grade of that course but it counts towards your level of proficiency.
